Route de l'île de Bréhat - 22620 PLOUBAZLANEC Motelpaimpol@aol.com
Paimpol was the starting point for the cod fishing schooners on their way to
Island and it has remained faithful to this memory.
As you stroll along the alleys you can admire the mansions of the ship managers who contributed to the region prosperity. The Sea Museum of Paimpol and the Museum of the Regional Costume will take you to the heart of Brittany history.
You will live through the great deep sea fishing expeditions which used to take place from February to August and which were referred to as day-to-day hard labour. Within about 83 years, 2000 men died as 100 schooners were swallowed up by the Island sea. The « Wall of the Departed » stands in Ploubazlanec a simple memorial of this difficult period. The Museum called « Mémoire d'Islande » « Remember Island » also in Ploubazlanec incites visitors not to forget how this hard and ruthless fishing has deeply affected the families of those days. Ploubazlanec symbolises the past of those Newfoundland fishing-boats and fishermen immortalized by the writer Pierre Loti.
Beauport Coastal Abbey, 800 years old in 2002, a very important place in the heart of Breton heritage will take you back to the day to day life of the monks in the 13th century.
In 1993 this abbey became the property of the Coasts Conservatory (Conservatoire du Littoral) and a whole series of rehabilitation works has gone on ever since. Copyright Motel Nuit & Jour Paimpol - Mentions légales - Création graphique du site internet par Reflet d'Expression
